As we read The Hunger Games at Upper Merion, think of the topics we have learned in Science and Technology class. What connections can you find?
Goal: Prepare a 15-30 second movie that integrates science content with Hunger Games themes. Parody? Educational Short? Public Service Announcement? Fake News Report? Product Endorsement? Be creative!
Pick a topic, and think of the science lesson at the heart of it. Is it about Earth Resources, Mechanical Energy, Chemical Energy, Electrical Energy, Processing Information? Does the book get the science right or wrong? Is the idea based on current technology or futuristic/fantastic technology? What do you know about this topic that the average reader/viewer might miss?
Pick a format, and build 15-30 seconds of video footage. Can you voice-over part of the preview? Modify one of the posters? Give a dramatic reading of a paragraph? Create a spin-off text from the point of view of a different character? Create a commercial parody using themes in the book?
Do you want to work with a partner or two? This project will be required for my Honors classes (periods 1, 7/8, 10) and you are welcome to form partnerships with students in other classes.
